Why your cookie banner breaks tracking on mobile only
Your numbers look fine on desktop, then you notice mobile conversions are oddly low. Since mobile is most sites' biggest audience, a banner that misbehaves there quietly loses you the majority of your data.
Why mobile is different
- Safari on iPhone (ITP) is far stricter than desktop Chrome, capping cookies and blocking trackers.
- The banner covers the page and people scroll or bounce without choosing, so tags never get consent.
- In-app browsers (opening a link from Instagram or email) behave unpredictably with consent and cookies.
- Slower connections widen the race between the banner and your tags.
How to fix it
Test the full consent-and-tracking flow on a real iPhone and in in-app browsers, not just desktop. Make the banner quick and clear so mobile users actually choose, wire it properly to Consent Mode, and lean on server-side tracking to survive Safari's limits. Most sites never test mobile consent, which is exactly why the gap hides for so long.
