Why your form submissions aren't tracking as conversions
The enquiries are landing in your inbox, but GA4 and your ad platforms show zero form conversions. That means your ads are optimising blind. Here is why form tracking so often fails.
The common causes
- No trigger on the real submit: the tag listens for a button click, but the form posts a different way, so it never fires.
- AJAX forms that submit without loading a new page, so there is no thank-you page to track.
- Embedded or third-party forms (Typeform, HubSpot, an iframe) that submit on another domain your tag cannot see.
- No key event: the event fires but was never marked as a conversion. See event not counting as a conversion.
How to fix it
Track the genuine success state, a confirmation message, a thank-you URL, or a reliable form callback, in Google Tag Manager, then mark it as a key event. For embedded forms you usually need the provider's own event or a server-side signal. Until this is right, every lead-gen pound you spend is being optimised on missing data.
