Why GA4 and Search Console clicks don't match
Search Console says you got one number of clicks from Google; GA4 says a different number of organic sessions. They rarely match, and neither is broken. They sit on opposite sides of the click and measure different moments.
They measure different moments
Search Console counts the click in Google's search results, before the person reaches your site. GA4 counts a session once the page loads and its tag fires. Everything that happens in between, a bounce before load, consent, ad blockers, can turn a Search Console click into no GA4 session.
Why the numbers diverge
- Lost between click and load: slow pages and quick back-taps are clicks with no session.
- Consent and ad blockers suppress GA4 but not Search Console.
- Definitions differ: Search Console clicks versus GA4 sessions are simply different units, and channel grouping can file some organic visits elsewhere.
- Timezone and data processing differences.
Which to trust for SEO
Use Search Console for anything about Google search itself: impressions, clicks, queries, rankings, it is the source of truth for what happens in the results. Use GA4 for what visitors do once they arrive: engagement, conversions, revenue. Comparing Search Console clicks to GA4 sessions one-to-one is the mistake; they are a funnel, not a duplicate. It is the same lesson as different tools reporting different revenue.
