How iOS privacy quietly broke half your ad tracking

If your ad results fell off a cliff and never fully recovered, and nobody changed anything, this is probably why. Apple's privacy changes removed a huge amount of the signal ad platforms relied on, and most businesses never adjusted.

What Apple actually did

App Tracking Transparency (ATT) forced apps to ask permission to track, and the vast majority of users said no. On top of that, Apple limits how much conversion data flows back and strips identifiers from links. For platforms that leaned on cross-app, cross-site identity, Meta above all, a large slice of measurable conversions simply disappeared overnight.

Why it hits Meta hardest

Meta's model depended heavily on recognising users across apps and sites. Remove that and the pixel under-reports, attribution windows shrink, and the optimisation engine gets worse data. This is why Meta and your shop never agree anymore. Google is affected too, just less dramatically.

How to recover what you can

You will not get back to the old numbers, nobody will, but a modern server-side setup recovers a large share of what the browser now loses. The businesses that adjusted are out-measuring, and out-bidding, the ones still relying on the pixel alone.
