Snapchat Pixel setup, and the errors that break it
The Snapchat Pixel measures what people do after clicking your Snap ads. Setting it up is straightforward, but a handful of repeatable mistakes stop it recording purchases. Here is the right way, and the traps.
The setup, in short
Create the pixel in Snapchat Ads Manager, add the base code to every page, then fire standard events like PAGE_VIEW on all pages and PURCHASE on the confirmation page with the order value and currency attached. Most sites fire it through Google Tag Manager off a data layer rather than hardcoding it.
The errors that break it
- PURCHASE on the wrong page: it has to fire on the real confirmation page, not the cart.
- Missing value and currency: without them, Snapchat cannot report revenue or optimise for value.
- Firing on every page: a PURCHASE that fires site-wide inflates results massively. See conversion fires on every page.
- Consent or ad blockers stopping the browser pixel entirely.
Make it reliable with the Conversions API
Because the browser pixel is easy to block, add Snapchat's Conversions API so your server reports purchases too, deduplicated against the pixel with a shared event ID. Test everything in the Snapchat pixel helper and event test tools before trusting the numbers.
