Consent & cookies

Is your cookie banner slowing your site down?

Some consent tools are small and fast. Others load a heavy third-party script that blocks rendering, adds hundreds of milliseconds, and drags down your Core Web Vitals, which can quietly cost you both rankings and conversions.

How a banner hurts speed

A consent platform often loads a large JavaScript bundle from a third-party domain before anything else can run, because it has to gate your other tags. If that script is render-blocking or slow to respond, your page sits waiting. The banner also frequently causes layout shift, the other half of the Core Web Vitals hit.

How to measure it

How to keep consent without the drag

Load the consent script as early and as lightweight as possible, prefer a tool that is asynchronous and served fast, and make sure it is not loading twice (see double cookie banner). You still need the banner to gate tags before they fire, so the goal is a lean tool, not no tool. If measurement matters too, pairing a fast banner with server-side tracking keeps both speed and data healthy.
