Cookie consent for Squarespace, explained
Squarespace includes a cookie banner you can switch on, which is handy, but it mainly governs Squarespace's own cookies. Anything you add yourself, custom analytics or pixels, often is not covered, which is where compliance gaps appear.
What Squarespace gives you
Squarespace has a built-in Cookie Banner setting and some consent controls for its own analytics and the integrations it manages. For a simple site using only Squarespace's own features, that may be enough.
Where it falls short
- Custom code injection: a GA4 or Meta pixel snippet you paste into code injection is not automatically gated by the banner.
- Reject handling: the native banner's control over third-party tags can be limited, so cookies may load after reject.
- No full Consent Mode by default, so a decline can mean zero data rather than modelled data.
The compliant setup
If you add your own tracking, use a proper CMP that integrates with your tags and Consent Mode, rather than relying only on the native banner. Then test that rejecting actually blocks your added tools. The same gap affects Wix and other hosted builders.
