Cookie consent for Wix, explained
Wix provides a cookie consent banner and a consent API that its own features respect. The catch is the same as every hosted builder: anything you bolt on yourself only respects consent if you wire it up to that API.
What Wix provides
Wix has a built-in cookie banner and a Consent Policy that governs Wix's own cookies and categorises them. Wix's native analytics and many of its apps honour the visitor's choice automatically.
Where custom tracking slips through
- Custom code in the site header (a hand-pasted GA4 or pixel) is not automatically governed by the Wix consent policy.
- Tags firing on load before the banner is answered, so cookies set regardless of choice.
- No Consent Mode unless you add it, so declines kill data instead of modelling it.
How to do it properly
Route your added tracking through a consent-aware setup, ideally a CMP plus Consent Mode, and confirm with a test that rejecting blocks your custom tags, not just Wix's own. A banner that only controls the platform's cookies, not yours, leaves you exposed.
