Platform mismatches

GA4 and Stripe revenue don't match: why and how to fix it

Stripe knows exactly how much money came in; it is the source of truth. GA4 is trying to attribute revenue to marketing, and it depends on a tag firing in the browser. So GA4 almost always reports less, and here is why.

Stripe records money; GA4 records a browser event

Stripe books every successful charge, no exceptions. GA4 only records a purchase if its tag fires in the customer's browser at the right moment. Anything that stops that tag, and plenty does, means Stripe has the sale and GA4 does not.

The usual gaps

How to close the gap

Make sure a purchase event fires reliably on real success, ideally reinforced with server-side tracking that reports from your backend using the Stripe webhook, not just the browser. Send renewals and handle refunds so recurring and reversed revenue are accounted for. Even then, treat Stripe as the financial truth and GA4 as the marketing-attribution view; they answer different questions and will never be identical.
