Pinterest Tag not firing or undercounting conversions
If Pinterest shows no conversions, or far fewer than you really got, the base tag is usually fine and the event is the problem, or the browser tag is simply being blocked for a large share of visitors.
First, confirm the base tag and the event
Install the Pinterest Tag Helper extension and load your site. No tag at all means the base code is missing or consent is blocking it. Base tag but no checkout event means the event, such as Checkout, is not firing on the real confirmation page, a classic pixel placement issue.
Why Pinterest tends to undercount
Even when it fires, the browser tag misses conversions to ad blockers, privacy browsers and iOS limits. Pinterest also attributes on its own click and view windows, so organic test visits will show nothing. A genuine undercount against your real orders usually means blocked browser events, not a broken tag.
The fix: clean events plus the Conversions API
- Fire the Checkout and other events from a clean data layer through GTM, with the order value and ID attached.
- Add the Pinterest Conversions API so server-side events recover what the browser tag loses, deduplicated by a shared event ID.
This is the same pattern that fixes Meta pixel undercounting: pair the tag with a server feed and the numbers come back.
