GA4 and Squarespace numbers don't match: what's going on
Squarespace shows one set of numbers, GA4 shows another, and they never quite line up. Some of that is normal and expected, some is a fixable fault. Here is how to tell which is which.
Why they measure differently
Squarespace Analytics counts server-side, from its own platform, so it sees essentially every visit and order. GA4 counts from the browser, where cookie banners, ad-blockers and iOS all remove a slice. So GA4 being somewhat lower than Squarespace is normal, not a bug. The question is how much lower, and whether sales are tracking at all.
The Squarespace-specific catch
On Squarespace you have limited access to the checkout and order-confirmation step, which is exactly where the purchase needs to be measured. Depending on your plan and setup, the GA4 purchase event may not fire cleanly on the confirmation page, so revenue under-reports or goes missing even though visits track fine.

Check my tracking freeWhat to check
- Is GA4 connected through Squarespace’s built-in integration, Google Tag Manager, or both? Both at once causes double counting.
- Does the purchase event actually fire on the order confirmation page?
- Is a cookie banner blocking the GA4 tag for visitors who don’t accept?
- Are you comparing the same dates and time zone? A mismatch here creates a gap that looks like a fault but isn’t.
Which number to trust
For total orders and revenue, Squarespace’s own figures are the reliable source because they count server-side. GA4’s value is in the why, the sources, journeys and campaigns behind those sales, which Squarespace can’t tell you. The goal isn’t to make them identical, it’s to get GA4 close and tracking sales reliably so its attribution can be trusted.

GA4 vs Squarespace: common questions
Why doesn't GA4 match Squarespace Analytics?
Squarespace counts server-side and sees almost everything, while GA4 counts from the browser where consent, ad-blockers and iOS remove a slice. GA4 being somewhat lower is normal; a big gap or missing sales is a fault.
Which is more accurate, Squarespace Analytics or GA4?
For total visits and orders, Squarespace’s server-side figures are more complete. GA4’s strength is attribution, the sources and journeys behind the sales, which Squarespace can’t show.
Why isn't GA4 tracking my Squarespace sales?
Often the purchase event doesn’t fire cleanly on Squarespace’s order-confirmation step, which you have limited access to, or a cookie banner is blocking the tag. Both are fixable.
