Platform mismatches

GA4 and Shopify's own analytics don't match: why

Your Shopify dashboard says one number, GA4 says another, and you cannot tell which is right. Both are, for what they measure. Shopify counts from inside your store; GA4 counts from a browser tag, and those see different things.

They measure from different places

Shopify records orders and sessions server-side, from inside the store, so it captures essentially every order. GA4 depends on a browser tag firing, which ad blockers, consent and the checkout gap all interfere with. So GA4 almost always shows fewer sessions and less revenue than Shopify.

The usual gaps

Which to trust

Trust Shopify for how much money came in, it is your source of truth for orders and revenue. Trust GA4 for marketing attribution, where visitors came from and how they behaved. Comparing the two headline revenue figures and expecting a match is the mistake, the same lesson as GA4 revenue not matching Shopify payouts.
