TikTok Events API (server-side) explained
The TikTok Events API sends conversions straight from your server to TikTok, instead of relying on a pixel in the browser. It is how you recover the sales that ad blockers, consent and iOS now hide from the pixel.
Why the pixel alone is not enough
The browser pixel is easy to block: ad blockers, privacy browsers, iOS tracking limits and consent declines all stop it. A large slice of your real conversions never reach TikTok, so its optimisation is working from partial data. This is the same problem the Meta Conversions API solves for Facebook and Instagram.
How the Events API fixes it
Instead of trusting the browser, your server reports the conversion directly to TikTok with the event details and whatever matching information you are allowed to send. Because it runs server-side, no ad blocker or browser restriction can stop it, so TikTok sees far more of what actually happened.
Deduplication: the part people get wrong
You normally run the pixel and the Events API together, which means the same purchase can arrive twice. TikTok deduplicates using a shared event ID sent by both the browser and the server. Get that ID wrong and you either double-count or lose the dedupe entirely, which is the most common server-side mistake, just like duplicate events on Meta CAPI.
Doing it properly
The cleanest setup sends events through server-side tagging so the pixel and Events API share one data source and one event ID. Done right, you recover most of the conversions the pixel alone misses, without inflating your numbers.
