Conversion tracking for Wix, done right
Wix is brilliant for getting a small business online fast, which is exactly why its tracking is so often held together with string. You are usually chasing leads, not sales, and Wix quietly limits what you can add, then shows you enough numbers to make you think everything is fine. Here is what actually goes wrong on Wix, and what a clean setup looks like for a lead-gen site.
Why Wix is its own special case
Most Wix sites are lead machines. The thing that matters is a form filled in, a booking made or a call started, not a checkout. But Wix restricts custom code, hides half the tracking behind its own marketing integrations, and dresses up its built-in stats to look like proper analytics. So the typical Wix owner is running ads or chasing traffic while GA4 and their ad pixels are either missing or firing at the wrong moments. Most Wix issues are not one broken tag, they are the platform quietly getting in your way.
The five things we see break on Wix
1. Limited tag access, so tags fire inconsistently
Wix restricts custom code and only allows GTM or custom scripts on some paid plans. So tags often get bolted on through Wix's own marketing integrations instead, which fire when Wix decides to fire them, not when your event actually happens. You end up with tracking you cannot fully see or control.
2. Wix's built-in stats give a false sense of security
The Wix dashboard shows visitors, sessions and popular pages, so it feels like you are tracked. You are not. Those numbers live inside Wix and do not mean GA4, Google Ads or the Meta pixel are set up at all. We regularly find sites running paid ads with no working analytics behind the pretty graphs.
3. Form and booking leads are never counted
Wix Forms, Wix Bookings and plain button clicks rarely fire a proper generate_lead or conversion event on their own. So the enquiry lands in your inbox, but GA4 and your ad platforms never hear about it. With nothing to optimise toward, Google and Meta are effectively guessing, and your reports understate every lead you win.
4. The cookie banner is wired to nothing
Wix will happily show a cookie banner, but it is very often not connected to your tags at all. So in the UK and EU your tags either fire before anyone consents or are blocked outright, rather than being gated through Consent Mode. Either way you are neither compliant nor measuring properly.
5. Single-page navigation skips most page views
Wix pages change without a full reload, like a single-page app. A tag set to fire on page load counts the first page a visitor sees and then goes silent as they browse, so your page views, funnels and remarketing all undercount unless the tag is set up for single-page-app history changes.

Done properly, GA4 and your ad pixels are actually installed, not just assumed from the Wix dashboard. Every real conversion, a form submission, a booking or a call, fires a proper generate_lead event that GA4, Google Ads and Meta can all see and optimise toward. Tags are set to fire on Wix's single-page navigation so page views are counted throughout the visit, not just on landing. And the cookie banner is wired into Consent Mode, so you stay compliant in the UK and EU without silently throwing measurable leads away. When that is in place, the leads in your inbox and the conversions in your ad accounts finally match.

Wix shows me visitor stats, so am I tracked?
No. Those stats live inside Wix and do not mean GA4 or your ad pixels exist. Plenty of Wix owners run ads for months on the strength of the dashboard, with nothing actually reaching Google or Meta.
Why are my form and booking leads not showing as conversions?
Because Wix Forms, Wix Bookings and button clicks do not fire a conversion event by default. A tag has to be wired to the submission or confirmation, or your ad platforms never see the lead and cannot optimise for it.
Why does my tracking miss most page views?
Wix moves between pages without a full reload, so a tag set to fire on page load only counts the first page. It needs to be configured for single-page-app history changes to count the rest.
