Why your GA4 conversions arrive late or delayed
You make a sale and it is not in GA4 yet. Usually that is just how GA4 works, but sometimes a delay is a genuine fault that costs you data. Here is how to tell them apart.
The normal, harmless latency
GA4 standard reports lag 24 to 48 hours. A conversion from this morning simply will not be in the standard reports until tomorrow. Check Realtime or DebugView instead for anything recent, and if it is there, nothing is wrong. (If DebugView is empty, see DebugView showing nothing.)
When the delay is real
- Modelled conversions fill in over time, so consent-affected numbers keep rising for a few days. See modelled conversions.
- Server-side or offline imports arrive on their own schedule.
- A tag that only fires on a later action (not the actual purchase moment) reports late and sometimes not at all.
If conversions never catch up, it is not latency, it is loss. That is a setup problem worth an audit.
